A night out painting. A life cut short. Diego Guerrero, 32, died after a shooting in northern Quito, Ecuador, on October 10. According to the police account reported by El Comercio, his group had gone to paint graffiti on a building under construction. A private security guard allegedly fired at their vehicle as they tried to leave. Two others were injured. A suspect has been detained, and the investigation is ongoing.
Now a statement is putting the message front and centre: “No wall is worth a life.” It condemns violence against graffiti writers across Latin America—and draws a line that should never need explaining. No wall. No property. No paint on a surface justifies shooting a person. Remember Diego Guerrero.
